Tragedy as a Strip Nightclub owned by police officer collapses in Abuja

The spate of building collapse in Nigeria is calling for answers to many unanswered questions by regulatory authorities just as a strip  nightclub in Abuja where ladies
dance naked has collapsed Friday
morning injuring about seven people
while another three are said to be
trapped under the rubble.

The strip club – Mimshack Arena in
Jikwoyi phase IV, a suburb of the city collapsed at about 10:30 a.m, is
said to be owned by one Assistant
Superintendent of Police Joseph
attached to the Special Anti Robbery
Squad (SARS)

Mimshack Arena holds special night
club activities, including the Ladies’
Night on Wednesdays and Strip Night Dance on Fridays.

According to an eyewitness, the building supervisor had advised that the bamboo sticks, which supported the concrete deck, should not be removed yet until the time when its calculated to be due. But the owner instructed otherwise.

“But Oga (Joseph) come this morning, and give order to remove them (bamboos),” one of the workers disclosed.
The concrete deck was barely
two weeks’ old.

However, in a swift reaction, the  combined team of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Federal Fire Service (FFS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police arrived with an excavator to clear the debris, and rescue those that were trapped under the collapsed building.

During the rescue operation, four persons with various degrees of injuries were rescued as many with various degrees of injuries were also rushed to a nearby clinic before being transfered to the Nyanya General Hospital.
