Prof. Olusoga Olusanya, the DeputyVice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu-Ode, has
been kidnapped.
Olusanya was on his way back from the Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, when he was abducted by unknown gunmen on Monday evening.
He was said to have visited FUNAAB where he served as an external invigilator at the ongoing postgraduate examination when he was ambushed on a bad portion of the Sagamu/Ore
expressway.
The don was abducted alongside his driver, with the latter dropped by the abductors on the highway at Odogbolu.
Investigations have shown that principal officers in TASUED main campus were in distress over the development.
The news of the abduction of the DVC forced the university Senate to abruptly postpone its emergency meeting earlier
scheduled for Tuesday.
TASUED’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade, told NAN that all she was after for now was the unconditional
release of Olusanya.
“I’m begging them in the name of God to please release the man to return home safely and in good health,” she
said.
Also speaking on the development, TASUED branch Chairman of the
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Akinsola Akinsanya, expressed worry over the development.
He said rampant cases of abduction in recent times had further shown the level of insecurity in the country, adding that this must be addressed.
The driver of the kidnapped don is currently being interrogated at the Odogbolu Police Division.
The Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development, adding that investigation had begun on the matter.
As at the time of filling this report, the kidnappers were yet to contact the family members.
