A soldier, Lance Cpl. Haruna Muazu, posted to the Bayelsa Government House, on Monday night shot and killed a colleague, Staff Sgt. Ishiaku Shuaibu.
Lt.-Col. Mustapha Anka, Spokesman of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, described it as most unfortunate.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 10 p.m. on Oct. 13, during a dinner held to mark the 2014 Legal Year with the Gov. Seriake Dickson in attendance.
The soldier was said to have snatched the service rifle of his colleague and shot him dead at his duty post.
It was gathered that the soldier who killed his colleague had arrived from the Elele Military Barrack in Rivers after collecting his duty allowances.

A Source at the Government House narrated the story to newsmen saying that two other soldiers on duty left their duty post briefly probably to take lunch and the killer soldier capitalised on the opportunity to shoot his colleague.
“He immediately ran away with the rifle and boarded a commercial tricycle popularly known as `Keke NAPEP’ and headed towards Hospital road.
“The sound of the gun shots attracted the Policemen on duty at the Banquet hall.
“The policemen, however, intercepted and stopped the tricycle and apprehended the fleeing soldier.
